Bone Health

Calcium, Vitamin D and exercise are necessary for bone health. Essential omega 3 ALA fatty acid from flax oil is also beneficial for bone health. ALA from sources such as HiOmega® flaxoil opposes the actions of the omega 6 metabolic pathway including eicosanoids derived from arachidonic acid. This results in beneficial effects on bone health in diseases such as osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

HiOmega® Heart Health

All the Good, No Bad...

Cold pressed, all natural HiOmega® flaxoil does not contain any cholesterol or transfat and is much lower in saturated fat than fish oil sources of long chain omega 3 (EPA and DHA). HiOmega® flaxoil does contain 700 mg of alpha linolenic acid (ALA) per gram of oil. HiOmega® flaxoil is the highest vegetable source of omega 3 alpha linolenic acid.

Scientific studies have shown a functional improvement in systemic arterial circulation, increased arterial compliance and decreased arterial pressure after dietary supplementation with flaxoil. Scientific studies with dyslipidaemic patients who supplemented their diet with flaxseed oil decreased their systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressure as well as reducing their serum C-reactive protein levels. As well, serum triglycerides were reduced for hypertensive and hyperlipemic people who consumed flaxseed oil with meals. Most studies of the effects of dietary flaxseed oil supplementation indicated a decrease in series 1 and 2 prostaglandins and thromboxane B2.

In animal studies, ventricular premature contractions, a possible marker for arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, were reduced. Amazingly, intravenous infusion of purified ALA prevented fatal ventricular arrhythmias in exercising animals.

Essential Fatty Acids and Breast Cancer

Essential omega 3 fatty acid from flax oil (ALA) and flax lignans from flaxseed hulls (SDG), are beneficial for breast health. Dr. Lilian Thompson and her team of scientific researchers studied the interactions of alpha linolenic acid from flax oil and SDG from flax lignans on certain types of breast cancer. Preliminary studies suggest flaxoil has synergistic effects with tamoxifen to fight breast cancer. Dr. Thompson's research publications can be found here: Overcome Breast Cancer
